  • THE BEE GUY:

January to March

This time each year,  though there is much being done daily on the farm, the chores are a different from other seasons. We have  peaceful evenings to quietly relax, there are chores in the morning, and afternoon. The stove to feed, and books to read.

This is the time of year that granpa sits around evenings and studies Seed Catalogs; the time to plan for the next  seasons crops and livestock goals. This is when seeds are ordered so they are here to plant: A time  the orders are placed for baby poultry.  This is also a time to make cheese from the excess milk, to make butter, and yogurt.  It is a time the mechanical ones go through the old machines and fix, or rebuild whatever needs maintenance before spring, (When Spring comes, we cannot afford breakdowns)

This is the time when grandma, and the girls  are spinning wool, or flax, and weaving it for this years clothes.  A time to sit by the stove and work on a quilt. A time to spend an even-ing on a puzzle.  BUT it is also a time where the chores are just a little harder to face each day, because of the cold.  It is a time when one of the chores is to take out the ashes, and to bring in the coal for the day, And yes sometimes to shovel the paths so we are not walking waist deep in snow.  This is also a time for the young, and the young at heart to

get out and enjoy an afternoon or evening sledding on the slopes, or skating on the pond.  And if it is cold enough, this is when we harvest ice to keep food cold next summer.

This is when there  are a lot of things happening slowly.  So  find this the  best  time for a stressed family to relax, and draw closer together.  This may be YOUR best time to visit!

You need to decide what the immediate  needs of your family  are, and  think about the interests of each member...
