The Time of Harvest:

By this time of the season, everything is growing, and much is becoming ready for harvest. The grains will soon be ready to cut, and thresh. The produce is reaching the peak. We are picking and enjoying fresh egetables every day, and also spending quite a bit of time both picking, and selling at the farm stand. Sometime during this time we will be stealing much of the excess honey from the bees, extracting it, filtering it, and bottling it. This is a sticky but fun time. This is also a time when one of the stoves might be fired up to make pickles, and jellys both for gifts to take home, and for the next years visitors to enjoy.  As we near the end of this period, we will be packing food away into the cold cellar to keep for the winter months. That will make you want to return for another season. Toward the end of the season we might have chickens to prepare and maybe "to can" for the winter months. This is the time of year when we are getting rid of the excess growth, and preparing the compost piles to break the weeds down for fertilizer for next years gardens. There will be nuts to collect and store. There will be late fall crops to plant. This is when we supplement our income with collecting yellowjackets, for other folks homes, so spend quite a bit of time at that. This is an opportunity for the older ones to travel about and see how this is done, also to learn the eco system of these vespids. We will be upgrading the cottages and preparing for the winter visits, so let us know if you have the ability to do construction trades that can help to speed up this process. This is also a time to button everything down with the meeting cottage to prepare it for the winter visits. We might invite everyone back for a weekend of Bible conferance, sometime during this period, while temps are warm enough to pitch tents for the extra visitors for this weekend, of Bible meetings

This is generally a busy time, no week is predictabl, for we harvest as the crops are ready, and that is determined by the weather. So come prepared for... And enjoy the diversity of activities.
