  • Who will enjoy this?
  • THE BEE GUY:

The holiday season

The time to enjoy the fruits of labor:

Even if you are not one of the families who will be able to be here for "Christmas Day" one year: Those who are here the weeks before, should keep the old theme and take it home with them to enjoy what you may have missed. We will be sure to keep all busy and involved in traditional projects, or traditional gift making. this will be a fun time of year. This is a mix of January, and the last period, as to what is going on during this season. There are still few things shutting down for winter: However, most of the serious work is the regular winter chores. This is not too early to see a snow storm, so you could have an opportunity to get the sleds out. We will be back full time to making cheese, butter yogurt, and maybe ice cream, in an evening. This is a time when we start the textiles on a restricted routine, for the ladies will have a banquet to prepare for either of the two holidays. The period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, will also be a time for all to think up and make traditional Christmas gifts for the members of their families. The Christmas Celabration will become an old fashioned country event, so do some serious research before you join us for this time of preparation

Winter sceness

Clothing definately wants to be warmer, though we can still recieve a week of warm weather, so do keep warm with layering instead of one heavy garment.

Bedding wants to include wool blankets, with the sheets if you have them. Remember the bedrooms are not directly heated, so may be quite cool on a cold night.  This is the season we start seeing glorious clear views of the night skies. The stars appear to be right there for you to reach out and touch. Ask for advise if you have questions

So, how about the Winter months? These have a different type of routine, with slightly different special chores.  This is a more family oriented time. The winter months are when the family spends time looking out for the livestock, while preparing for the planting through harvest rush, soon to come.

Processing wool or Flax into cloth... maybe quilting, or other home projects, for the ladies.

For the men, preparing machines for the heavy season, making wooden ware for bees, building and repairing stalls for animals.

Then of course there is always the milking to be done, and the butter, cheese, yogurt, and ice cream to make.
