THE BEE GUY
Would you hire someone to destroy a trace of biodegradable bee venom, by using a much larger amount of a permanent poison, which will in some form, remain with your property long after the venom is gone? It is possible you could maybe be stung by the relatively mild mannered bees: But it goes without saying that to leave a hazardous poison permanantly in your walls or in your yard, is not a good idea.
Serving the Rochester to Senneca Falls corridor,
South to Watkins Glen and Bath
If you want to cause a confrontation with a colony go try to kill them all with highly poisonous; bee and hornet spray. If one carrying that poison gets you all bets are off on allergy problems. this can actually cause a more serious, or a new allergic reaction.
We remove bees using safe capture techniques. We control the numbers, rather then killing everything living in the area!
As a side detail: Bees and wasps, do not aggresively sting anyone and everyone in the area, unless they believe that their colony is in jeopardy. The running lawn mower will draw ground bees, or honeybees out to investigate. And yes, if they feel threatened they will sting. If stung by a honeybee, do not slap it. A honeybee leaves a venom sac, and, an involuntary muscle, to slowly pump the venom. To slap it is like hitting the plunger on a hypodermic needle. You just got the whole dose. Instead scrape the remaining venom sac and stinger off with a knife, or a sharp finger nail. do leave the area fairly quickly as the sting sends out a message that you are a problem, therefore calling other bees to investigate.
To act like a windmill when approached by a bee, is to ask for trouble! To quietly and quickly move away from the nest site is usually more succesful.
The wasp family though slight pollinators, are an active air force against such bad bugs as caterpillars, and flys, and many other flying insects. The Yellowjackets are actually helping to protect you from fly born diseases. So do not automatically go out to kill them. That said: Germanica, the yellowjacket that likes to live in the walls of houses will build a very large colony, and when they run out of space will chew through the drywall into your house. They are not there to attack you, but you are certanly in a possition to get stung when they do this. If this happens, turn on the lights in kitchen area only, turn all other house lights off, as they are drawn to light. Open kitchen windows before going to bed to allow them out in the morning when the sun comes up. Then call me to control them. I will find the nest sight, fasten an aluminum sheet over the opening they are coming in through, and start the process (to be repeated a few times) to control them thereby reducing the numbers. But wait. Take a slow walk around your house, and look for them flying in and out (midday is good) if you find a nest flying in and out at a quick pace not hovering, but hitting the wall and running inside quickly call me before they come in to pay you a visit inside.
